Challenge
An aging HVM fab with over 400,000 SF of cleanroom space was experiencing an increasing number of failures impacting production. The challenge was to comprehensively understand the risks and focus ops capital where it would have the biggest impact. 144 Facility Systems were included in the scope.
Solution
FTD developed a process to identify which facility systems were most likely to cause an interruption to production (ITP). Leveraging subject matter experts for each facility system, FTD established questionnaires and templates that the Owner’s facility engineers completed and FTD analyzed. Systems that were at risk were further investigated at the equipment level with failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) completed for equipment that was identified as a potential risk. The outcome of the FMEA was risk prioritization numbers and justifications that helped prioritize capital planning for the mitigation of the higher-level risks.
Barriers
The client lacked the process and tools to uniformly assess risk across all facility systems making it difficult to prioritize issues to address.
Impact
A creative project approach allowed cost-effective analysis, significantly reducing interruption to production risks. FTD served by adding high-value expertise and analytical capabilities and helping the Owner better understand their facility and present the findings to upper management. The ultimate result was the reduction of risks to production, protecting the bottom line.
